Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need a permit to install bollards in Utah?
- Permit requirements vary by municipality. Salt Lake City and many Wasatch Front cities require a building permit for permanent embedded bollards. We handle permit applications as part of our turnkey service. Surface-mount bollards typically do not require a permit.
- How long do concrete bollards last?
- Properly installed embedded bollards last 20 to 30 years in Utah's climate. The steel core is protected from corrosion by the surrounding concrete. Powder-coat finishes typically need a touchup coat at 10 to 15 years. After a vehicle strike, we assess the bollard for displacement, cracking, or pipe deformation before certifying it for continued service.
- What happens to a bollard after it gets hit?
- A properly embedded bollard typically survives a low-speed strike without displacement—the vehicle damage is usually far greater than the bollard damage. High-energy strikes can crack the concrete collar at grade and bend the pipe. We offer post-strike inspections and replacement of damaged units.
- Can I get removable bollards that still provide real protection?
- Yes. Removable bollards use a flush-mount receiver sleeve embedded in the slab. The bollard locks into the sleeve with a keyed or padlocked mechanism. Installed correctly, removable bollards offer protection comparable to fixed units at slow vehicle speeds. They are popular at delivery bays and event venues.
- Do you service existing bollards?
- Yes. We inspect, re-paint, and replace damaged bollards. Common service items include cap replacement, powder-coat touchup, plumb correction after minor vehicle contact, and concrete collar repair where surface spalling has occurred.
