Commercial Concrete Bollards — Vehicle Impact Protection for Utah Properties

Protect storefronts, drive-thrus, and loading docks from vehicle strikes with professionally installed concrete bollards. We handle core drilling, steel placement, and concrete fill—single-day installs for most commercial sites.

What Commercial Properties Use Bollards For

Commercial office building with quality exterior finish

Concrete bollards serve as the first line of defense between vehicle traffic and your building, equipment, or pedestrians. Retail storefronts typically see four to eight bollards across the facade to stop errant vehicles from mounting the curb. Drive-thrus use them to channelize traffic and protect the order and pickup windows. Loading docks require heavy-duty bollards rated for truck-class impacts—a fully loaded semi can exert tens of thousands of pounds of force in a low-speed strike. Gas station canopies, utility meters, electrical panels, and HVAC condensers are all common bollard protection targets as well.

Materials and Construction — What We Install

Our standard commercial bollard is a 6-inch Schedule 40 steel pipe set 36 inches deep in a concrete footing, then filled solid with 4,000 PSI concrete and finished with a powder-coat cap. The steel core absorbs the initial impact energy; the concrete mass dissipates the rest. We also offer 4-inch Schedule 40 for lighter-duty applications and surface-mount bollards where core drilling is not feasible. Color options include safety yellow, OSHA orange, red, black, and custom RAL colors for brand-matched installations. Removable bollards with a flush sleeve are available for delivery bays that need periodic vehicle access.

Installation Process and Site Disruption

Most commercial bollard installations complete in a single day. We core drill through the existing slab, set the steel pipe, pour and tamp the concrete fill, and cap the top. Core drilling generates water and slurry—we vacuum it out and leave the site clean. Standard cure time is 24–48 hours before the bollard is load-bearing; we mark the area clearly and can schedule installs overnight or on weekends for businesses that cannot close during business hours. Typical retail storefronts of four to eight bollards take four to six hours.

Pricing and What Affects Your Quote

Installed cost ranges from $450 to $900 per bollard depending on pipe diameter, slab thickness, and any reinforcement conflicts we encounter during core drilling. Surface-mount systems run lower—around $300 to $500 each—but offer reduced impact resistance compared to embedded pipe. Removable bollard systems with flush sleeves cost more upfront but pay back quickly at frequently accessed delivery doors. We provide written, itemized quotes after a site walk. Quotes are valid for 30 days.

Common Questions

How many bollards does a typical retail storefront need?
Most retail storefronts need four to eight bollards across the primary facade—one at each end of the pedestrian zone and spaced 5 to 6 feet apart between them. We assess your specific layout, ADA path of travel, and parking lot geometry to give a site-specific recommendation.
Can bollards be installed without breaking the concrete slab?
Surface-mount bollards bolt to the slab surface and require no core drilling. They offer good protection against slow-moving vehicles but are not rated for high-energy impacts. For storefronts in high-traffic drive aisles or areas with previous vehicle strike history, we recommend embedded pipe bollards.
How long does a bollard installation take?
A four-to-eight-bollard retail install typically takes four to six hours. We can schedule outside business hours to minimize disruption. The concrete fill needs 24–48 hours to cure before the bollard should bear an impact load.
