Frequently Asked Questions
- How much does commercial parking lot striping cost?
- Traffic paint striping runs $0.25 to $0.50 per linear foot. Thermoplastic runs $0.75 to $1.50 per linear foot. A 100-stall lot typically has 6,000 to 8,000 linear feet of stall lines plus fire lane, accessible stall, and directional markings—expect $1,500 to $4,000 for a full paint re-stripe or $4,500 to $12,000 in thermoplastic.
- How long does parking lot paint last in Utah?
- Traffic paint in a commercial lot lasts 1 to 3 years depending on traffic volume and UV exposure. High-traffic areas (main drive aisles, stop bars, accessible stall symbols) fade fastest. Thermoplastic lasts 5 to 7 years in the same conditions. We recommend thermoplastic for high-visibility safety markings (fire lanes, accessible stalls) and paint for parking field stalls on lots that are seal coated on a biennial cycle.
- What is the minimum stall width for a commercial parking space?
- Most Utah municipalities follow IBC standards: 8.5 to 9 feet for standard stalls, 8 feet for compact stalls (if your jurisdiction allows compact stalls—check local zoning). ADA accessible stalls require 8 feet plus a 5-foot access aisle minimum. Do not go below 8.5 feet for standard stalls in a newly designed lot—undersized stalls generate door dings and customer complaints.
- Can you stripe at night?
- Yes. We stripe commercial lots during overnight and early-morning windows routinely. Our equipment includes lighting for night work. Night striping requires adequate temperature (above 50°F) and no dew—we monitor conditions and will reschedule if dew forms on the pavement before the paint dries.
- Do you handle permit applications for striping?
- Most parking lot re-striping does not require a permit if you are replacing existing markings in-kind. New construction striping, ADA layout changes, and fire lane changes often require AHJ review and may require a permit. We flag permit requirements during the scoping process and can assist with applications.
